Radnor Park Community Project, Folkestone

A new exciting community based project has been proposed to facilitate the transformation of Radnor Park in Folkestone.

The new playground is a grass-roots, community-backed project. £50,000 has been raised by the Radnor Park Community Group through Folkestone and Hythe District Council’s Community Chest fund and this helped to secure a further £55,000 from the Roger De Haan Charitable Trust.

Martello Building Consultancy will be acting as CDM Principal Designer and Project Co-Ordinator. The proposed plans are to enlarge the current children’s play area, improving the play equipment and a proposal for a toddler-zone has also been submitted.

The current landscaping will be enhanced to create a well-kept green space to be enjoyed by local residents, families and visitors to the area. The restoration of the existing fountain next to Radnor Park Lodge will be included in the restoration project.

Radnor Park Lodge, which was the former old park keeper’s lodge, was sympathetically restored in 2016 thanks to a partnership between Folkestone and Hythe District Council and East Kent College. This created an opportunity to involve the local campus students and showcased a highly positive community collaboration between the council and local students. Martello had acted as the Contract Administrator, Quantity Surveyor and designed the architectural package to complete the project.
