Support for Romney Marsh businesses

The Marsh Million £1 million growth fund helped more than 20 Romney Marsh businesses to start up or expand. It is currently closed to applications, but once loans are repaid the funding will be recycled to help promote further business opportunities.


The Marsh Million Business Loan Scheme has offered 0% interest loans to support small and micro businesses and new start-ups in the Romney Marsh area.

The new Romney Marsh Tourism Investment Support Scheme (TISS) is now closed to applications.

This scheme is funded by recycled loan repayments from the former Marsh Business Boost Loan Scheme and partner funding from the Magnox Socio‐economic programme, Kent County Council, Ashford Borough Council and Shepway District Council. TISS will offer 0% loans ranging between £15,000 – £50,000 for investment in new or improving existing tourist industry products on the Romney Marsh.

Examples of such projects could include: hotels; serviced accommodation experiences; destination restaurants; spa and meetings facilities; attractions and activity products;  high quality self-catering; camping/glamping and caravan parks.

Applicants must be located or seeking to move to the designated eligible areas within the Ashford and Shepway local authority areas:

Ashford: The parishes of Aldington, Appledore, Bilsington, Bonnington, Kenardington, Newenden, Orlestone, Ruckinge, Stone-Cum-Ebony, Warehorne, Wittersham.
Shepway: The parishes of  Brenzett, Brookland, Burmarsh, Dymchurch, Ivychurch, Lydd, Newchurch, New Romney, Old Romney, Snargate, St Mary in the Marsh.

This new business was allocated a loan to help construct and operate an internet based platform which will help projects intending to build medium scale renewable energy infrastructure to raise the funding they need to deploy.

This business manufactures high quality knives and loan funding has enabled them to buy goods in bulk to satisfy large orders and to develop their very busy online shop.

Metcalfe and Sharp
Funding Approved – £7,000

Marsh Million funding will allow this accountancy company to relocate to larger premises, therefore expanding their business. This will also allow the employment of extra staff.

Peganina Fishing
Funding Approved – £10,000

This recipient is using their loan to improve his charter boat so it can better cater for recreational angling and recreational diving.

Team Evolution Engineering
Funding Approved – £10,000

This company manufactures minimoto race engines. Additional funding will allow investment in new machinery to expand the product range and update advertising for the business.

Funding Approved – £5,000

The loan will enable the expansion of this hair salon, enabling more clients and more profit.

Uniclamp Ltd
Funding Approved – £50,000

Uniclamp are using the loan to establish a new facility to manufacture their own design of clamping tools and tie down systems.

We Powder Coat
Funding Approved – £10,000

Additional funding will enable this company to buy larger premises and progress and develop the powder coating and shot blasting facilities, moving to an eco-friendly blasting procedure.
