Plamil is the oldest vegan company in the country. It makes sells its products to most parts of the world from its base in Folkestone. When we first created vegan products, it was difficult to explain the importance of a strict plant based diet to most people. Vegan were seen at best as eccentric.
Because of the pioneering work of Plamil, more companies have started to make vegan friendly food. It is said that there are more than half a million vegans in the UK now and many more people using vegan products for religious, health reasons or just because they taste great. The number of vegans is growing fast all the time. Because of this Plamil is also growing.
As Plantmilk Ltd, the company produced the first soya milk in western Europe. Before that it also made milk from cabbage. It has also made a pea based milk. It also made the world’s first dairy free ‘milk’ chocolate using soya, and later rice milk. Plamil has been pioneering the creation of new ethical and sustainable free from food since the 1950s.

And not only that, the first Organic chocolate made in Britain was manufactured here in Folkestone by Plamil.
