Bucket and Spade Ltd encompasses Rocksalt, The Smokehouse and Rocksalt Rooms. Our expertise is focused on the travel, tourism and hospitality sector. Rocksalt is a high quality fish restaurant and bar, serving locally sourced produce and a seasonal sister fish and chip operation plus four boutique bolt holes for overnight stays. The Daily Telegraph described Rocksalt: ‘Mark Sargeant achieves culinary magic at Rocksalt. His dedication to local ingredients introduces diners to new treasures’.
Location – Folkestone
Rocksalt sits directly on Folkestone harbour, with the Smokehouse and rooms set one alley back from the waterfront. There is currently a huge regeneration project going on in the town and besides the town needing a high quality restaurant, we are also just 53 minutes on the high speed train from London St Pancras to Folkestone Central, making it a great day out to the coast for Londoners too! Closeby is Folkestone’s long pebble beach running alongside the Lower Leas Coastal Park.
Advantages of Folkestone
Folkestone benefits from the advantages of lower property/office rental costs than in a city; just over 50 minutes from London on the high speed link; the Folkestone Triennial, a public art show; beautiful sandy beaches; large scale regeneration ongoing in this beautiful seaside town
We have had some support from the local Hotel and Catering Association and a few others in the surrounding area.
Advice for start-ups
We would highly recommend it as cost savings can be made with lower priced property as you are away from the city. There is a huge regeneration going on in the town with the seafront just about to be redeveloped bringing more mixed use space to the harbour front along with housing (which ultimately means more customers for businesses).
Furthermore, I own a building in the town for start up businesses with the option to just rent desk space at The Workshop in Folkestone. The town is very quickly becoming a hot bed of start-ups and there is a very exciting vibe happening down here
