Folkestone Community Works area
Folkestone Community Works area covers the wards of East Folkestone, Central Folkestone, Folkestone Harbour, and part of Broadmead. Projects supporting the most disadvantaged areas will be prioritised for funding.
Folkestone & Hythe District Council has secured funding from the European Regional Development Fund (£1.5m) and European Social Fund (£975,000) for the delivery of the programme.
All projects will be required to provide 50% match funding – this may include grants from local funds and foundations, your own resources, and staff/volunteer time. Match funding cannot include any funding from European Regional Development Fund or European Social Fund sources.
Folkestone Community Works Objectives
Folkestone Community Works is structured around three objectives and eight activities. Projects put forward for funding must meet the following:
- Work experience and job preparation for young people
- Getting people back into work
- Promoting emotional and physical well-being
- Promoting financial wellbeing
- Promotion of social enterprise
- Support for business start-ups
- DIY space/incubation
- Setting up and operating the community hub
The EU Community Led Local Development (CLLD) is a programme that supports local solutions to the obstacles faced by residents – supporting those most disadvantaged on their way into training, employment or entrepreneurship.
Folkestone Community Works is the local CLLD, and its strategy has been produced by the Folkestone Local Action Group – made up of representatives of the local private, voluntary, community, and public sectors.
They explored the challenges and experienced faced by people that can make it difficult to either find a job or set up and run a business. The strategy created on the back of this work can be read here.
