Action Watersports

Action Watersports is a family run watersports centre in Lydd, Romney Marsh. Our team are passionate about Water-skiing, Wakeboarding, Jet Skiing, FlyBoarding and Stand up Paddle Boards. We love sharing this passion with our guests.

Action Watersports is a family run watersports centre. In 2000 we bought a barren lake with the all-important planning permission for powered watersports – the only one in Kent and Sussex. This lake was the perfect size for a world class water-ski facility. We set about transforming this barren hole in the ground into a friendly and welcoming place to enjoy a host of watersports.

As the extensive modifications with large scale landscaping and tree planting got underway at the lake. Now 16 years on the fully established plants and trees offer superb protection from the elements. Offering our guests the latest equipment, activities and coaching techniques we have many regulars and holiday makers, the cosy area with a log burner and sofas allowing for an extended season.

Before buying the lake we had been coming down from Maidstone regularly so knew the road links are great. Take a radius from Southend to Brighton, that is our customer base and we are easy to get to from all areas.

The fast link from London has made a huge difference. We even have guests that fly in to London Ashford Airport in Lydd – we offer a complimentary collection service from there.

Advantages of Romney Marsh

In Lydd, Romney Marsh, we’re based between the two best Kitesurfing beaches in the South East our lakeside pro shop is kept busy supplying the latest wetsuits and equipment.

It takes hard work, commitment and passion to succeed. The first few years getting up at 4am in the summer months to carry out repairs and preparation was the norm as we started with older boats and Jet Skis. Those days are behind us now as we have new equipment, but it is important to build the business slowly.

Also the need to move with the times is so important, being flexible and pro-active. I am currently on a very steep social media learning curve, where Facebook was once all you needed, that is no longer enough.

We have found Stag and Hen do’s in recent years are very popular as are birthday parties – there is a real one up man ship amongst these and we offer the wow factor. 16 years ago the demand for that was not there.

Before we bought the lake we attended a Nat West sponsored small business course. I would recommend any courses like that. Shepway District Council also offers fantastic business mentoring courses. We are accredited to The British Water-ski and Wakeboard Federation and the Royal yachting Association.
