Nathan Harris, one of the Chartered Financial Planners, grew up in the Folkestone area. Having relocated back to the area Nathan and his business partner Oliver Philips decided to open a Kent office in Folkestone. Hotdesking at The Workshop meant that they could build their business in Folkestone while still using their London office as their head office.
One of the main factors for their decision was the low cost of premises and the flexible lease terms for their co-working space. They also loved the idea of working by the sea whilst still being a stone’s throw from the City.
Since they decided to move, their business has gone from strength to strength, and Lothbury Pendil now occupies a large office on the ground floor of The Workshop. As a result of this growth, they currently employ ten members of staff and actively seek apprentices from the schools and colleges in the area.
Nathan believes that the talent pool of apprentices and skilled workers in Folkestone has been one of their keys to success. They are proud to have retained several staff who began their careers as apprentices. Embracing flexible working practices has also enabled the business to recruit a talented workforce with previous experience working in the City of London. By considering family responsibilities and requirements, they have been able to recruit skilled team members who work part-time around childcare.
Their continued staff retention and growth is also a testament to Nathan and Olly’s focus on continued staff well-being. They maintain a positive working environment by organising team sessions at the recently opened HotPod Yoga, offering group personal training sessions and buying flower decorations for the office from local businesses. Their team is regularly supported and rewarded for their hard work and dedication.
Lothbury Pendil is committed to engaging with the local community, using local services and businesses, instead of following a standard networking approach. They regularly fundraise for local and national charities. Last year Lothbury Pendil sponsored the Channel Tri in Folkestone which they will be part of again in 2019 and in September their Communications officer Lily Courts, is heading to Africa to climb Kilimanjaro for MIND.
Lothbury Pendil is a prime example of a local business that has grown as a result of the property, services and people that Folkestone and Hythe have to offer. We wish them every success with their growth in the future.
