TEDx Folkestone 2019

Are you looking for some intellectual stimulation and to hear some fascinating and inspirational speakers? Then maybe you should book yourself tickets to TEDx Folkestone 2019, being held at Creative Folkestone Quarterhouse on 22nd June.

The TED talks began in California 30 years ago and have grown into a worldwide not-for-profit organisation devoted to ‘Ideas Worth Spreading’. Because of the popularity of TED, TEDx was created. TEDx is a programme of local, self-organised events that bring people together to share an inspirational TED-like experience without having to travel too far from home.

TEDx Folkestone has become increasingly popular, pulling in a wide variety of speakers from all walks of life. This year the theme is ‘A Reimagined Future’ and speakers have been encouraged to explore their ideas and interpretations of our future; taking into account their own personal experiences and ideologies, and how they would like to use these to change the world (or just the community).

The talks, which each have to be under 18 minutes long, promise to cover a wide range of philosophical questions ranging from ‘what would life be like if we all had the same surname?’ to ‘what would the world look like if no-one had anxiety?’

The key requirement behind all the events in the programme is that the speaker must be sharing a great, well-formed idea. No talk is ever the same, but it must fit into one of two categories;

  • Something that’s new and surprising; an idea or invention that the audience has never heard about.
  • A great basic idea (that the audience has maybe already heard) with a compelling new argument behind it that challenges beliefs and perspectives.

Tickets for the all-day event cost £15 each and include lunch.
