Project outline Romney Marsh Green Line bus project

Proposals have been discussed to consider a community, direct bus service link between New Romney via Appledore Station and Ashford Town. Currently the bus service takes at least an hour and takes in many of the smaller villages in the surrounding area. This makes travel for work, education and hospital appointments very difficult.

Demand for a fast connection has increased since COVID 19. Social isolation has been a significant driver of demand, for both young and old, however bus timetables are increasingly being cut having an impact on users from all demographic profiles.

A direct bus link could potentially open up wider opportunities for education links, work and tourism between Ashford and New Romney. A faster service will provide accessibility to train links from Ashford, whilst attracting visitors to the Romney Marsh from Ashford and beyond with a service running directly to the Romney Hythe and Dymchurch Railway.

This study will provide valuable, rich data from New Romney and Ashford residents and bus users, and provide the Romney Marsh Partnership with evidence for the demands required from all users and the various journeys being undertaken.
