Last July saw the launch of the first festival of skills for the Romney Marsh. This year we aim to build on that success.

Last years event  saw over 20 local businesses and training providers pitch a stand at the Marsh Academy. The event – Romney Marsh Inspires  – is for the whole community but has an emphasis on young people and the opportunities available to them. This year the event will be held at the Marsh Academy on 21st June 23 and is organised by Folkestone & Hythe District Council, The Romney Marsh Partnership, Romney Resource Centre and The Education People.

This year’s event is all set to be bigger and better than the first,  with a range of training and careers’ providers attending, along with “local champions” who have helped shape the area. There will be workshops, interactive activity and talks from organisations including the NHS, Digital Kent, Kent Fire and Rescue and many more.

The aim of the event is to inspire young people and the wider community on the opportunities available, learning from organisations and hearing from local champions who have helped shaped Romney Marsh.

An “All Age Festival of Skills” to promote the opportunities available on The Romney Marsh. To inspire Romney Marsh students and residents in the community to seek the range of training and career opportunities that this event will host. The event will showcase and offer support for free training in digital skills, offer a chance to volunteer locally, help people back into the workplace and inspire young people to seek knowledge and understanding of future career options.

The event is designed to provide the community of the Romney Marsh with the skills and knowledge to grow their confidence and see that there are lots of opportunities for them and lots of ways they can employ their skills and get involved at a local level.

By Inspiring and upskilling the community, this event promises to add value through supporting individuals and economic growth in the area, reducing the impact of decommissioning at the Dungeness site, upskilling the future generations and raising aspirations of the whole community.
