Romney Marsh Partnership – Supporting the Local Economy
The Romney Marsh Partnership (RMP) is entering a new stage in its ongoing development with the appointment to a role funded and supported by Folkestone & Hythe District Council, the NDA/Magnox socio-economic scheme and Kent County Council.
Linda Marsh, who has a background in the business sector, joins as senior specialist in a role that reflects the significant work of the partnership in the regeneration of the Romney Marsh.
Linda brings with her a good understanding of the skills sector, having worked on careers projects for Kent Invicta Chamber of Commerce and Management and as people development specialist for the East Kent College Group.
This partnership role has been jointly funded for the next three years to maintain the momentum of the important work of the RMP to bring forward new economic regeneration projects in the area.
Chaired by Cllr Patricia Rolfe from Folkestone & Hythe District Council, the RMP brings together representatives from local government, business, training, education, and the third sector to identify needs and opportunities locally and in the surrounding area. It has been instrumental in advocating and enabling many projects, including the current development of the Romney Marsh Business Hub on the Mountfield Road Industrial Estate in New Romney which is due to welcome businesses from January 2022.
Cllr Rolfe said: “The Romney Marsh Partnership has excellent opportunities ahead and the arrival of Linda into this post will further enhance the important work within this area. There are challenges ahead, but we must not forget that these challenges also bring opportunities for business growth and diversity.”
Magnox Socio-economic Manager Haf Morris said: “The support shown by all those involved in the RMP is testament to the valuable work undertaken. The appointment of Linda to the team demonstrates the commitment of the funding partners and the Romney Marsh Partnership to help and support the communities around Dungeness to look for opportunities to mitigate the closure of Dungeness A site.”
Cllr David Wimble, F&HDC Cabinet member for the District Economy said: “It is an exciting time to be working in the Romney Marsh area with current projects coming to fruition alongside the opportunity to develop and implement an economic development strategy which will see some further transformational developments.”
Cllr Derek Murphy, KCC’s Cabinet member for Economic Development, said: “I am delighted to welcome Linda to her new role and very much look forward to working with her as we look to develop and deliver new economic opportunities for the Romney Marsh.”
