Understanding the Grant Funding

Three objectives and eight activities

Folkestone & Hythe District Council has secured funding from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) £1.5 million and European Social Fund (ESF) £975,000.

Funding objectives

Folkestone Community Works is structured around three objectives and eight actions. Projects put forward for funding must meet these objectives:

Objective 1: Enhancing work-readiness and well-being (ESF funding)

  • Action 1: Work experience and job preparation for young people
  • Action 2: Getting people back into work
  • Action 3: Promoting emotional and physical well-being
  • Action 4: Promoting financial wellbeing

Objective 2: Promoting local business and social enterprise (ESF funding)

  • Action 5: Promotion of social enterprise
  • Action 6: Support for business start-ups
  • Action 7: DIY space/business incubation facilities

Objective 3: Integrated delivery mechanism for the strategy (ERDF funding)

  • Action 8: Setting up and operating the community Hub

What is a call?

A call is an open invitation for organisations/businesses/applicants to submit an application against a published specification.

The programme have currently open calls for:

The application process is in two parts:

  • Part 1 is the completion of an Expression of Interest form and Eligibility Questionnaire
  • Part 2 is the Full Application

Match funding

Grants available for projects will be required to provide 50% of the total project cost as match funding. Sources of this match funding may include grants from local funds and foundations, own resources and staff costs and for ESF funded projects volunteer time, (please note that ESF funding is no longer available). Match funding cannot include any funding from any other ESF or ERDF sources.

Catchment area

To be eligible for a grant your business or the residents benefiting from a project, must be located within the catchment area. The defined target area within Folkestone is shown by the outer red boundary line on the map. Application assistance

The Programme Management Team are available to assist applicants throughout the whole application process.

Please contact the Programme Management Team on folkestonecommunityworks@folkestone-hythe.gov.uk to discuss your project or if you wish to be added to our distribution list for future rounds.

What happens after I submit my application?

All applications received are assessed using a standard project assessment method by an in Project Assessor.

The Local Action Group (LAG) is made up of local businesses and community leaders. The LAG looks at all applications and assessments puts forward and recommends those that should be funded.

Successful applications will be sent an offer letter and grant funding agreement by the Council.
