Fudge Kitchen started as Jim Garrahy’s Fudge Kitchen in Blackpool in 1983 and in 1995, it was
bought by Sian Holt, who has expanded the Fudge Kitchen into eight thriving shops and a new dedicated production facility in Aylesham, Kent. The award-winning fudge products are available in some of the world’s finest stores, including Dean and Deluca in Kuwait and, of course, Selfridges and Harrods in London.
The Fudge Kitchen uses the finest, natural ingredients, handmade and hand decorated by an artisan staff exporting to 20 countries from France to the Falkland Islands and has recently also moved into the food service, corporate and hospitality sectors. Fudge Kitchen are proud to have received eleven Great Taste Awards in 2010, 2011,2013, 2015 and 2016.
Location – North Downs
On the one hand we chose the site because we already had a retail store in Canterbury so siting the production facility close to this, and the head office in Lyminge, made sense. We chose to originally establish the HO in Kent rather than near any of our other retail locations, because of the proximity to Europe and the intention one day of considering export as a means of growth.
Advantages of North Downs
For an SME food producer it’s a great area, with a strong heritage of local and artisan food producers of all sorts. Now we have started exporting it certainly makes travel for us and our customers, straightforward.
Yes – we had a Regional Growth Fund ‘RGF’ loan to set up the production facility in Aylesham, various funded events and overseas trade show trips by Kent County Council, assistance from UKTI towards other overseas trade shows.
We have benefited from networking with IoD Kent, UKTI, Produced in Kent and the local FSB.
